☆ KatsuCon 2012 ☆

After much anticipation (probably the longest-feeling two-and-a-half weeks of my life) KatsuCon has come and gone, and may I just say… wow. the experience is one I won’t soon forget, and to make sure of that, it’s time to jot down all the little details. This was my first year attending KatsuCon, and hopefully it will not be my last. This was also my first East-Coast convention!

This is pretty long, so you might want to grab a snack!

My first new photos of 2012! Something old, and something new. <3 I can’t wait to see the rest of the pictures that were taken this weekend by all of my photographer friends. Expect picture spam, as well as a Con Report in the coming weeks!

Many thanks to Lionel for these first shots!

It’s Official — I’ll be attending Anime Los Angeles for the first time this Januaray!

I booked my flights, and got the time off work… now it’s down to the crunch time! If everything goes off without a hitch, these are the costumes I’ll be bringing!

 • Homura Akemi — School Form — Madoka Magica
 • Homura Akemi — Magical Girl Form — Madoka Magica
 • Maka Albarn — Soul Eater
 • Mytho — School Form — Princess Tutu

School Homura and School Mytho are all finished, and Magical-Girl Homura has my top Priority. Maka is about 3/4 done, so she should be happening too! I jsut have to really bust my ass!

I’m really looking forward to attending a new convention, and getting a chance to spend more time with some of my CA friends, and those I only manage to see in passing at Fanime. I’ve heard good things about ALA, so I’m SUPER excited, even if the venue isn’t that great. It’ll be nice to kick off my con-year early!

Episode 5, “On the Eve of the Fire Festival” is one of my favorite episodes of Princess Tutu. It was this episode that really began to pull me full-force into the series. Looking back on it now, as many times as I’ve watched this series, this scene in particular is such a turning point. It is here where we see Mytho first show Rue some sign of genuine affection, without being prompted by her. Her alarmed reaction also begins to scratch the surface of her own, deep-seated fears and desires. She wants his love, but doesn’t understand how he could ever show it to her, or give it to her so freely.

During this scene, we also hear ‘Aquarium’ from “Carnival of the Animals” — basically their theme, and the base piece Rynn and I used for our performance at WCS.

I really want to cosplay Rue’s fire festival dress, but the more I think about it, the more it feels wrong to do it without Mytho. These costumes, as a set, are absolutely beautiful, and in September of 2012, I’ll be taking a trip to Germany, where I hope to take pictures in Nordlingen, the town which Kinkan is modeled after. Taking Princess-Tutu related photos in this town is, no exaggeration, a cosplay DREAM of mine.

…Any of my European cosplay buddies want to do this with me?

Cosplay Plans for 2012

I know there’s still a couple months left in the year, but I’m already starting on my costumes for 2012 — My first con on the year is the first weekend of January, so I need to be ready to go! I have to say, that if all goes as planned, this will be my most ambitious year yet! There’s one for KumoriCon 2012 that I haven’t posted, but that’s for later. ^_~ This is it for now, and the last three are a bit iffy, and dependent on how things go as it gets closer.

Kayla and Krystal performed this skit for the KumoriCon 2011 cosplay contest! If you missed it, you can check out the video!

This skit won us ‘Best Master Skit’! For as little time as we put into it (Maybe about 10 hours from beginning to end of choreography and rehearsal) I’m pretty proud of it. There’s always bit you feel like you could have done better, and this one’s no exception… but I still had a lot of fun. The green room and audience this year were just wonderful, fun, and friendly. I don’t think I’ve chatted with so many random strangers in a long time.

For KumoriCon this year, I decided to actually crank out a couple new costumes! Nothing fancy, mind you. In the last couple days, I’ve been plugging away at this little baby. Might as well get some more use out of Mytho’s wig, right? It’ll be fun to be the Clueless Prince, instead of trying to be the Dashing Prince. Clueless and unassuming is so much more his style. It’s only pinned shut in this pictures, and I was too lazy to go find any of my binding, so it doesn’t quite fit the way it should, what with the boobs getting in the way. Oh, the joys of crossplay.
Things left to do:
Stitch down trim on cuffs
Sew in hook and eyes
Cut out and sew pants
Make neck-tie
make ruffles sleeve cuffs
Buy shoes
I’m making one other costumes too, but I’ll show pics of that once it gets rolling. ^^
