Hey guys, SakuraCon is this weekend in Seattle, WA.  I’ll be stopping by for hijinx and hangouts on SATURDAY ONLY, and I’ll be wearing this little number — I figure this is the way I’ll be easiest to spot!  If you see me, PLEASE come say hello, and ESPECIALLY my friends (you know who you are)
PS — people should drop me some cell numbers in my Ask box.  I’ll reply, privately, with mine!

✰ 2011 Year-in-Review + 2012 Plans ✰

Another year gone, and another entry spent looking back at the ups, downs, and general mayhem of cosplay antics from the last 12 months.  I somehow managed to do a lot in 2011, and yet at the same time, not a lot at all.

This is going to be rather long, and heavy on the videos and photos, so I’ll save your dashboards:

E is for Edward Elric
I made this costume back at the beginning of 2007, to go with Rynn’s Al costume.  This was before we formulated our plans for a larger FMA: Conqueror of Shamballa group.  This was my first cross-play, and I was rather pleased that I was moderately convincing.  This costume was worn to SakuraCon 2007, the first GasuKan (A Seattle-Area Cosplay Gathering), and then never again.  I sold it last year, and although I’d hoped to see some pictures from the buyer, never received any.
This photo was taken in Sept/October of 2007 as Gasworks Park in Seattle, WA — photographer is my buddy Vince (Darkain).
Random Fact: While I don’t consider this to be a very flattering photograph of myself, it’s still one of my favorites of this costume.

D is for Dare and Dance Central!
Probably one of the silliest, off-the-cuff groups I’ve ever been a part of, but I’d be a liar if I said I didn’t love every minute of it.  This particular photo was actually featured on the official facebook page for Dance Central!  It features my friends Chris (as Mo), Mandy (as Oblio), Kayla (as Ms. Aubrey), Rynn (as Emilia) and Rey (as Angel).  and of course, myself as Dare (the one with the neon pink hair for those not in the loop). If I thought any of my friends would be down with wearing these again, I’d be all over fixing up this costume; so much of it was an experiment gone wrong, and I know I’m capable of so much better.  Still, I think everyone’s moving on to Dance Central 2 which, sadly, Dare was cut from.  ;_;
This photo was taken by Lionel at SakuraCon 2011, and also features our awesome Boombox.  Yeah~!

Cosplay Plans for 2012

I know there’s still a couple months left in the year, but I’m already starting on my costumes for 2012 — My first con on the year is the first weekend of January, so I need to be ready to go!  I have to say, that if all goes as planned, this will be my most ambitious year yet! There’s one for KumoriCon 2012 that I haven’t posted, but that’s for later. ^_~  This is it for now, and the last three are a bit iffy, and dependent on how things go as it gets closer.

Because I need some easy fodder with which to spam this tumblr when there’s nothing else to see, I’m jumping on the wagon for the ABC Cosplay Challenge!  But I’m definitely not doing one per day… and I’m pretty sure I’m gonna fail when I get around to X.  >.> To make things a little more interesting, I’ll include a little something about each costume or photo posted.
Here we go!

A is for Aya Brea
This cosplay was literally thrown together Thursday night before SakuraCon 2009, as I was getting packed.   I had a lot of fun wearing her— something about the blond wig, slinky dress slit up to THERE, and the gun, was very… empowering.  This photo was taken by my dear friend Kayla (BATcosplay, and a fellow member of NOTN), and was my first time with her as a photographer!  We took these photos in the emergency stairwell of the Sheraton in Seattle, WA.

Krystal

Krystal is 25-years-old, and grew up in Seattle, Washington. Recently, she moved to Portland, OR to be closer to friends, and currently works for a local mortgage company.  She has been cosplaying since 2003, when her Grandma helped her make her first costume for a convention; she’s been hooked ever since, becoming serious about it around the end of 2005, and slowly teaching herself sewing techniques as well as wig-styling, and minimal prop and accessory construction.  With a background in Dance and Theater, Krystal likes to contribute to blocking and staging, as well as dialogue editing. Her current favorite costume is a toss up between Haku from Spirited Away and Mytho from Princess Tutu. Her dream costume is Garnet til Alexandros XVII (Royal Gown) from Final Fantasy IX. Favorite Cosplayers include Tess, Sparkle Pipsi, Jia, Shiya Wind, Adella, as well as all that is produced by the members of Twinzik, and her all-time favorite cosplay group, Underground Cosplay. When it comes to conventions, her favorite has become FanimeCon in San Jose, CA.

In 2010 Krystal and Rynn were selected to represent the USA in the World Cosplay Summit in Nagoya, Japan!

Outside of cosplay, Krystal likes knitting, playing video games, participating in online text-based RPGs, and working on websites (she designs and maintains her own site, as well as the NOTN website).   Her favorite anime and manga are Princess Tutu,  Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood,  Kuroshitsuji, and Puella Magi Madoka Magica.  She likes any kind of music except for Rap and Death Metal, and particularly enjoys 90′s music, classic rock, and Classical; her favorite composers are Tchaikovsky and Wagner. She’s also obsessed with the soundtrack for “WICKED”.

You can see all of Krystal’s costumes, convention reports, and more on her website.
